Overview

The Division of Behavioral Health has a commitment to improve the quality of life of Alaskans through the right service to the right person at the right time. The central purpose of the division is to promote an integrated and comprehensive behavioral health system based on sound policy, effective practices, and partnerships.

What we do

The Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Alaskans by providing the right services to the right individuals at the right time.  The Division supports a robust and continuous behavioral health continuum of care through technical assistance, regulatory guidance, and optimized resource allocation.

We believe in supporting Alaska’s statewide behavioral health system (mental health and substance use) which uses the Continuum of Care approach.  This method focuses on preventing and addressing behavioral health risks early.  It ensures people receive the right level of care, starting with the least intensive support, while providing more services and resources for those with serious or ongoing needs.

Services provided by the Department of Behavioral Health:

  • Management of the Alaska Behavioral Health State Plan and 1115 Behavioral Health Reform Medicaid programs. Activities include:
  • A continuum of community-based crisis services including 988 and Crisis Careline
